Our dedicated team of instructors are trained to the highest standards are amongst the most experienced in the country. We offer instruction for novice through to experienced game and clays clay shooters.
Clay shooting practice is only available for valid shotgun certificate holders. You can still shoot at the range without a certificate by booking an individual lesson, “give it a go session” or group event with one of our qualified and insured instructors.
Premier Shooting Ground
Situated 5 miles away from the popular Gretna Green and set amidst 100 Acres of stunning Dumfries and Galloway countryside, Westlands Country Parks premier shooting ground comprises of up to 100 Promatic super sporter traps and 20 different stands, throwing a large selection of targets. Our Layouts include Scotland’s highest high tower with four simulation traps, down the line (DTL), Skeet layout, Compak, driven flush and a Rabbit pair.
To shoot alone, you must have a shotgun certificate. We must see the original document every time you visit.
However, if you do not hold a certificate, we offer a give it a go session, or full tuition, where you can experience the thrill and excitement of shooting clays, with a member of our team.
Clay Pigeon Shooting
We offer clay pigeon shooting instruction for novices through to experienced game and clay shooters, both at our shooting ground and in the field. Our dedicated team of instructors are trained to the highest standards.
Westlands Country Park sells a wide variety of cartridges inc. 12 bore, 16 bore, 28 bore, 4.10 and even 9mm.

English Sporting
The English Sporting clay shooting discipline has the sport’s biggest following in Britain. While other disciplines use only standard targets, Sporting’s targets are in all shapes and sizes, thrown in many trajectories at differing angles and speeds. Westlands Country Park has a fifteen English Sporting layout, providing an exciting variety of sporting targets with a good balance of difficulty for both the experienced and novice shooter.
Shooting Tuition
Tuition & Groups
We offer one-on-one tuition for individuals, as well as clay shooting experiences for groups.
Whether you are a beginner or an experienced shot, our professional and friendly coaches will provide the necessary tuition to accommodate your needs.
Give it a Go Sessions
Book a ‘Give it a Go’ session, available to guests staying with us and the general public.
Each session consists of 25 shots and typically lasts around 45 minutes.
£50 per person.

Clay pigeon shooting is definitely a stag weekend activity for men who want to bust out in tweed, deer stalkers and pipes. As an activity it could hardly be any more British. It’s a real skill to hit those clay pigeons and an excellent test of hand-eye coordination.
Groups
Licence holders are authorised to bring three non-licence holders with them and must accept full responsibility of all guest actions on the ground. If bringing guests, licence holders are advised to take out the relevant insurance.
The Gun Room
We have an exceptional collection of new and second-hand shotguns and rifles available for purchase. Stocking a full range from leading manufacturers – Beretta, Browning, Caesar Guerini, Miroku, Perazzi, Tikka, Sako and many others – we are sure to have the right gun for you.
Tuition
For those who already hold a valid shotgun certificate, our experienced coaches are on hand to help you unlock your full potential. Whether brushing up on your skills in time for the game season or a competition, or just feeling the need to sharpen up your game, let our experienced instructors take you to the next level.
